ANTEA-OXIDANTS: THE UNIQUE BENEFITS OF TEA

July 23, 2017 By kunara-admin 1 Comment

Even though we’ve become a latte-loving nation, tea is still a very popular drink in Australia – especially among the health conscious. Chamomile, green, earl grey…what’s your cuppa of choice? Whether you’re at work or at home, taking a break for a cup of tea may offer a range of nourishing health benefits.

ANTIOXIDANTS

Tea is a rich source of antioxidants. Antioxidants are found in a variety of foods, such as dark chocolate, tea and fruit, and may offer a range of protective health benefits. This includes their ability to combat free radicals in the body that may cause damage, such as joint inflammation and premature aging. The antioxidant benefits of tea have been used in traditional Ayurveda and Chinese medicines for centuries. It’s thought that sipping on tea may not only help to boost the body’s antioxidants, but provides an abundance of overall therapeutic benefits.

HYDRATION

Contrary to popular belief, drinking tea typically doesn’t lead to dehydration. The amount of water from a standard cup of tea is more than the water lost from its mild diuretic effect. With the added health benefits of antioxidants, it can be a great choice to stay hydrated – particularly during winter to help keep warm. Hydration is essential for the body to be able to perform optimally; both physically and mentally. It may help to nourish the brain, carry nutrients to cells and eliminate waste from the body. If you’re at work, taking a break to make a cup of tea and hydrate may help keep your concentration levels up throughout the day.

MOOD

The abundance of antioxidants and other nourishing ingredients tea leaves contain may help enhance feelings of positivity. Some teas, such as black, contain caffeine – which in small amounts may be useful for improving concentration levels and boosting mood. Its hydrating effects can help avoid dehydration and its effects on mood, including irritability and lethargy. This is essential if you don’t enjoy drinking plain water but want to promote a positive mindset.

As well as tea’s antioxidant, hydration and mood benefits, it’s important to consider the impact that our love of tea is having on the environment. English Tea Shop are one of the leaders in the tea industry making waves for their commitment to supporting small scale, local Fairtrade farmers in Sri Lanka. Their tea is high quality, certified organic and comes in a large range of black, herbal, white and green options.  Their certifications include Fairtrade International and the Soil Association. English Tea Shop are on special at Kunara this week – come and try their range of delightful teas.
